These heads are '71 castings, with an Edelbrock Performer 4 bbl manifold on top. We pulled a valvecover to find screw in studs and guideplates Haven't yet pulled the manifold, it the runners don't look near big enough to be CJ or SCJ. If these are CJ or SCJ heads, how would I identify them? ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

They've also got real thick spring shims, socketed for the springs like 289 HiPo heads. These things have got to be .200 or thicker. V8, the quickest way is look at casting #, it is below valve cover rail on outside approx center of head. There is only one number that is a true CJ & it is DOOE R. There are other ways, if you can put a pocket screwdriver into the intake ports thru the top front & rear valve cover bolt holes, if the top of exh. port flange is flush with the head bolt boss they are CJ. All pre 72 385 series heads had 7/16 studs, only CJ had guide plates & spring seat cups. The 429 4v heads AKA Thunder Jet, had c8ve-Dove casting# & are good heads especially for street/strip use due to smaller port size,(velocity) The CJs are kinda like 351C 4bbl heads, aint no good for street use, (no Bottom end),however lack of low end torque is NOT a problem with a 385 series engine. ------------------ BAD COMPANY TILL THE DAY I DIE!!!!!

Oh yes, I almost forgot, the CJs have 14mm tapered seat plugs,5/8 hex, all others had 18mm ts with 13/16 hex.

They could be D2OE heads. They were the PI heads. Kinda a cross between the CJ and the D0VE heads. The D2OE heads cam with studs and guide plates along with spring cups but had slightly smaller valve sizes than the CJ/SCJ heads.Look by the middle exhaust ports close to the valve cover for the casting number.

The truck pullers will give ya at least $500 a set ofr the D2OE's. They love'em.Actually the D2OE is a better head than the C8, C9 D0VE's. The possibly can be port matched to a CJ/SCJ intake manifold or the D0VE intake opened to match them, not postive since I have never owned a set. They already have the larger valves along with the studs and guide plates. You may have to change the studs since some of them were the positive stop style for the hydraulic cam.

Is this an entire 429 police interceptor engine perhaps? If so it had alot of nice pieces from the factory. Forged TRW pistons, the CJ/SCJ rods, baffled CJ/SCJ oil pan. Alot of them also had 4 bolt main blocks. Might be worth checking into.
