Can anyone recommend a good fuel pump to fuel a 500hp motor? I was leaning towards a Holley Blue. Are these quiet pump or the noisy pulsating ones?

Holley blue pumps are NOISY!! And, at least the ones I bought, very unreliable. I have had 4 of them, and 3 of them leaked after a short amount of use. I switched to a Holley Volumax 250 pump and it worked great (but still noisy.) I then decided I need a bigger fuel pump for use with alcohol, and switched to a Holley billet 350 pump. It works awesome, but once again, it is not the quietest thing in the world. If it were a street car, it would be very annoying. But since it's a race only vehicle, it doesn't bother me. And actually, I kinda like the fact I can hear it working. If your car is street driven at all, several people I know have had good luck with Mallory pumps. And they are substantially quieter than any of Holley's pumps.

Never had any problems with leaks on the Holley Blues. Used two on a 557 once and supplied adequate fuel at a lower cost than Mallory 140 or 250. If I were going with Holley, would conside the black pumps over the blues. They are rated similar to the Comp 140.

I have the Holley black and did my best to isolate the vibration from the frame. It still buzzes the car quite a bit. It's not a problem for me though, I have no radio and it gives me something to listen to...

I've used a 3 Holley pumps(Black,Blue,Red) with no problems at all.... I run the motor on the Black pump and the n2o on the Red one. If you mount them to the frame they do indeed make alot of noise. I ended up using some left over shock rubber bushings between the frame and the pump.. I to would rather be able hear if they're on and working.. ------------------ Todd 71 Mav Grabber All orig 306 cu.in. Cast Iron heads. Carillo Rods.Best et. 10.71 @ 124 thru the mufflers.

What engine are you running? I run the Carter # M60454 mechanal race pump which is for the Windsor engines and it does not require a regulator $61.95 from Summit and they are rebuildable. If these are good enough for NASCAR they're good enough for me! popeye ------------------ This is FORD COUNTRY, where on a quiet night, you can hear a chevy rusting

Just a comment...Suporting 500 horsepower will take a pretty mean electric fuel pump. I'd recommend a bypass regulator with a return line. I had been running an 18 psi/160 gph electric fuel pump regulated to 7 psi but without a bypass/return, and the pump got very hot. Not such a problem if a strip only car, but for continuous operation on the street, just something to think about ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

I have nothing bad to say about the Holley pumps except that when your at the local cruise and flip the fuel pump switch on, everyone starts looking around to findout who brought the 440volt adult playtoy! Serious noise. I look at it this way, if your at 500HP then your probably at the limit for even the Holley Black. The Holley Volumax is a nice "loud" pump but I dont believe they have a bypass port and I know they are not meant for street duty (continuous use). My money was spent on a Mallory Comp250 and if I had to do it again I would buy one again without thought or hesitation. They are quiet, have a 1/4" bypass, rebuildable (not that I have had to yet)and will support future engine mods and more HP. my .02 Good luck, Gordon

Crackin me up kid! I'm runnin two blue pumps on mine, one for the regular system and one for the bottle. The part of your post I'm bonding with is the noise. people who haven't heard my car, or a race car for that matter think the engine is running when I click on that pump just before firing it up. quote: Originally posted by kid vishus: Holley blue pumps are [b]NOISY!!
