Not sure if it's true, but, I've been told you can't tell the difference until you take it apart, Equa lock clutch disc has 5, and Trac lock clutch disc has 4 "humps" on the outside of the clutch discs.Like I say, take this info for what it is, I'm not sure myself. ------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package my photo page

I think the equa-loc's got 2 spider gears compared to the traction-loc's 4 spiders. The trac-loc's twice as strong.------------------ '68 mustang 351 clevor- 10.92@124 '67 Stang, 351W -11.18@118 '69 351C Torino-14.90@100 '78 Pickup 351W-15.56@88 '79 Pickup 460 ET=??

Doesn't the Equa-Lock have two pins and the Track-Lock have four?

I was looking at that site before but he didn?t have a picture or then again maybe I missed it. It says on his site that an equa-loc has 3 fiber plates and 4 steel ones and a traction-loc has 4 fiber plates and 5 steel ones. Also stated is that both came in 2 and 4 pin versions as well as 28 and 31 spline versions. I did see him mention that the side of the spool where the ring gear bolts go has a machined surface on the traction-loc and a roughcast surface for the equa-loc.

I bought a rebuilt 8" with 3.55 gears. the paperwork included says it came with a torllok insertable from Mid City Differential. Anybody heard of these or know what this means? Its supposed to be an aftermarket traction lok.
