I just looked at the FordRacing website & saw all the pretty Siamese bore Racing Blocks & am wondering if this is overkill (for a guy who isnt made of money) I just planned on getting a early model Block (351W) & Getting it decked & aligned everything good & straight, But then saw these FordRacing blocks & am wondering if I got one of these would the extra money spent on the siamese block ,save me on what I would have done to the old used block? (Again the engine will be used mainly street & a weekend warrior)[This message has been edited by Kellxr7 (edited 09-09-2003).]

Kel,Yeah it's overkill. A taller '71+ block would be even better for your application. SteveW

The Sportsman block is a used 351 truck block. You can get one cheap by buying a truck 351 at your local wrecking yard.Ford cleans and checks used truck blocks, bores them 30 over and sells them as Sportsman blocks. They are good blocks for street strip use. John

I'm pretty sure the sportsman blocks have alot more material around the main webs than the production blocks

According to "How to Build Short Track Power" written by Richard Holdener and the Ford engineering staff, the Sportsman blocks are reworked used truck blocks.John

John did a quick search on the web and found this conversation about the Sportsman block. The guy thinks the early Sportsman blocks were heavier. 2 years ago when I was down at Jim Evanuik's shop (a local Ford engine builder) he claimed they were as heavy as the SVO blocks in the main webs. These could have been the early ones refered to in this link http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/carbedMustang/message/19659?source=1
