I plan on eventually building up an Aode for my Cougar ,But for now am sticking with the C4 & I have heard of guys using torque converters from 6s or 4 cylinders in their v8 cars for more punch because they have a bit higher stall, is this true? Anyone tried it?

Is a very true statement. The convertors for like a 4cyl Pinto is smaller in diameter and will give a higher stall speed when used with a V8. The draw back is it might not be internally strong enough to handle the extra torque of some engines such as a 429/460.

Most 8" and 9" convertors sold years ago were rebuilt Opel convertors.

thanks,, Any other opinions? (If I got a smaller one it would only be hooked up to a 300hp engine)

It wuld not be worth it, if you destroy the converter you will kiss the transmission goodbye. You can find a good converter on Ebay for very little $$$. Plus the stall would be higher than you would require.
