I did however remove the inner springs to run-in my mechanical camshaft, and then put 100 miles on it before installing the inners. Mpcoluv Gearhead Posts: 1299 From: Charlotte NC usa Registered: Apr 2001	posted 08-09-2003 08:45 AM DO NOT START THE ENGINE WITHOUT A ZINC BASED OIL ADDITIVE! Just trying to save you some trouble. I did not follow the above advice and am now re-building my engine because of wiped cam lobes. I think most recent cam failures are due to the lack of anti-scuff compounds in todays oil. Use a bottle of GM EOS, or the similiar comp product. Both contain Zinc Disulphide (sp?) and will help greatly with breakin. IP: Logged
