Do you have to remove the inner valve springs when breaking in a hydraulic cam?

Depends on your spring pressure (not likely). I did however remove the inner springs to run-in my mechanical camshaft, and then put 100 miles on it before installing the inners. Probably not necessary, just safe

DO NOT START THE ENGINE WITHOUT A ZINC BASED OIL ADDITIVE!
Just trying to save you some trouble.
I did not follow the above advice and am now re-building my engine because of wiped cam lobes.
I think most recent cam failures are due to the lack of anti-scuff compounds in todays oil.
Use a bottle of GM EOS, or the similiar comp product. Both contain Zinc Disulphide (sp?) and will help greatly with breakin.
