I'm assembling a 331 SBF with a R302 block topped off with AFR aluminum heads. Is there a rule of thumb cold valve lash allowance for a solid lifter or roller camshaft to compensate for the head expansion as they grow upwards as they're heating up? Stated differently, how much additional valve lash does the valve train need when performing the cold setting?

Fe's are plenty fast, but "Y"'s are fun when they run in the nines.

I think Crane recommends setting the lash tighter by .006 when cold with Al heads on an iron block. That worked out pretty close for me recently on a solid roller. Just double check it when hot. http://www.cranecams.com/master/adjustvt.htm

Thanks for the input. This will give me a good starting point. I'll re-check the lash hot and see just how close it is to spec before readjusting.
Thanks again.
