Does anyone know how much a 1969 Boss 302 crank weighs? Can they be ground down to a 2.00 journal? How much weight can be taken of of them? Looking to weigh around #30lbs

I know they can be ground down to 2 inch journals because I have one which was offset ground to that size. If you give me a couple of days to find it in my storage area I will weigh it.John

John, what stroke do did you get by cutting the crank offset?

Finally dug out the Boss 302 crank, after 1 hour of digging through stuff piled on stuff in storage area I finally found a Boss 302 crank. Wouldn't you know when I looked closer this morning I had grabbed a stroker instead of the offset grind. It should be close to the offset ground weight. On an electronic scale is is 47.0 lbs. Looking at the crank it appears to have been internaly balanced, again I don't think this affwct the weight significantly. John

I wonder how strong the crank will be after being cut down. The '69 Boss 302 was famous for breaking because it was crossdrilled. That's why Ford didn't crossdrill the '70 Boss 302.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and FordRamAir.com

Hmm... The stock cast iron crank in my 289 headed 302 engine is cross drilled. It's taken TONS of high rpm stickshifted nitroused abuse. No problems. Starting over, I'd just use some 3/4 groove competition bearings instead, but I've had no problems.Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

I think the breaksge problem occured in the trans-am cars not in drag cars. The Trans-am motors were geared to keep the motor in a narrow high rpm area for the duration of the race.I have used both 69 and 70 cranks with no problems. John
