Had some guys at a local shop build a section of custom made metal hose with thermostat switch housing welded in, to trigger my electric fan (on the lower return side of the radiator). The switch was not working properly so they replaced it and the replacement switch did'nt turn on the fan at all (god knows how long it idled in there shop before they noticed the fan was'nt going to come on). They replaced it again and the 3rd one worked. So I drive it maybe 30 miles and I notice globs of oil in my overflow can. Checked the oil and it is 1/2 a quart low. What is the oil doing in the radiator? Have I got a cracked block or something? The oil in the engine looks fine, but it never used oil before and now suddenly its low. What do I do to test it? Any help is appreciated...------------------ 67 coupe (my first car in '78) 10:1 302, 4spd, 9" (TrueTrac)posi 4.11 windsor jr heads* *(tweaked by Lindvig mach.) 270H cam .50" lift crane rollers performer rpm (match ported) holley 750 (#4160) hooker super comp. full msd CE 90/10 front shocks Rancho adj. Hmmmmm... usually it's the other way around I'd think head gasket or intake gasket; pressure test the cooling system, do a compression check of all 8 cylinders. Is the crankcase contaminated with coolant at all? Does the oil look like a milkshake ?------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

The oil looks fine, only oil in the antifreeze...makes me think about where the oil passages run under pressure near the cooling passages in the block...hmmm, will pressure check the cooling system and compression check the cylinders, any other suggestions, thanks

That's the damndest thing... high pressure oil galleys don't run anywhere near the water jacket; it'd need to be a massive structural failure and that's not likely. You may wind up pulling the water pump/timing cover off and inspecting the galley plugs, gasket integrety (if they don't tear on the way off), pump and cover integrety. It does sound unusual ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

I don't think it is a "massive" structural failure. The motor still runs strong... So far only oil in the antifreeze, not the reverse...

I think I'd clean out the overflow can and top off the oil and take if for another drive and then check it again............Just my opinion,,,, Ryan
