As most of you guys know I finally got started on the 302 build. My ring gap is .014 and the book says I have to have at least .016. I am using hastings chrome moly rings. I have heard on a performance motor that tighter ring gaps make more power, but I don't want them to but, so should I leave them or file them?

Is this strictly a race car or will it be used for street primarily? If street is the primary venue, then open the rings the couple thou.

The amount of power gain by not opening them at our level won't be worth the risk of the end gaps butting together and damaging the cylinder walls and pistons.

Primarily street, just the occasional rice burner that has to be beat!
