The last two weeks in second round my car has run off pretty bad. We run first round around 7:30-8 right when the sun is setting. then we run 2 round @9-9:30 everyone else seems to pick up or atleast stay the same. But may car has run off by a 8.22 on a 8.17 and a 8.24 on a 8.18 the last two weeks. Just wondering if there is anything I could do to correct this.
Have had the advantage at the tree both weeks, very frustrating to get beat this way.

The 60 fts were the same the car just ran off. Like I said everyone else I run with their cars picked up and they said they always do when the sun goes down. But mine wants to slow down. Someone said if it running lean it will make the car do that, that I need to jet it up some. Just wondering what everyone thought?

Jerry,

If it slows down when the air improves then it is too lean. Jet it up a couple and see how it likes it. Do you know the D/A change?

I agree with everyone else on the lean. Do you run an electric fuel pump? If so, how old is it? Have you checked it out?

as the night cools off so do you tires and the track, which can result in tire spin but since you say your 60 foot time is the same I would rule out that idea. I too would say you are running lean and it scares me that your that close to the lean side befor it cools off better to run a little richer than to burn a hole in your piston.. Just my Opion though..Bruce

If it's on alchohol, it might be fat.

Alky motors when they are rich will slow down when the humidity goes up after the sun goes down.

Jet the car up before you go to the track. I never mess with jets after i have made time runs, it screws everything up. I have friends I race with that do this every weekend and lose because they play with stuff before eliminations like their Austin Coil or something. If it doesnt seem to be running lean then i would just dial the car up .05 next week. I know many guys at the track that win consistantly because they know how their car will react to weather changes even if it means dialing up. I have seen them dial up as much as .06 from day to night and run right on. I dont know how they do it. I have the same problem you do except mine runs faster sometimes too. Oh well its only my 2nd year of racing i guess i have alot to learn.

It's probably lean and jetting up a few sizes won't hurt you. Our car will pick up after the sun goes down but will slow down .02 as soon as we see dew forming on anything. Our weather station doesn't agree with our logic, so come the later rounds we will take the dial from the station and add .02. It usually puts us pretty close.
