welcome to M & M KBR!

Try taking your distributor out and using a drill prime your oil pump just to make sure it didn't lock up and cause the pin to shear.
Use a flashlight to check your cam gear for wear.

Finally, either double pin your distributor cam gear or use a bigger size pin and use cold rolled grade 8 steel.
This isn't that unusual with these motors, with bigger cams. That little roll pin is just the weakest link.
Good Luck!

Per a reply by Animal Jim on another web forum, get a 3/16" spiral roll pin and drill the distributor gear and shaft to 3/16".

Welcome to M&M.

Double pin you're cam gear. This is almost standard procedure, some cam companies ship 460 rollers with twin pins by default. Any competent machine shop can whip that for just a few bucks. It is a bitch to take out your cam but without two pins, odds are it will happen again.

Check your distributor spacing, that is, the length of the distributor. This measurment is what places the gear in relation to the cam. If the distributor body is out of spec, in either direction, it will load the distributor gear badly.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Oh, I forgot to add....

Check the installed height of the distrubtor gear. If you used the pilot hole that cam predrilled in the new gear, it may or may not be in the right place. 99% of the time it isn't in the right place.

The measurement for most of Ford distributors is 4.031-4.038". This is from the bottom of the gear to the bottom of the mounting ring/surface of the distributor housing.
