Where the 68-74 blocks thicker in the mains then the 74-newer blocks? Are the 68-74 blocks that much better?

I don't think the block is much of an issue unless you are making huge hp.The 5.0 blocks limit is around 600 hp so not many 302 buildups are gonna be any where near that much power.I'd use whatever you have. The 5.0 blocks give you the option of a roller cam with no mods and the older block is probably marginally stronger so its a toss up in my opinion.

maybe you want to look for a mexican block if you want a little more strength. I think they have a higher nickel content and maybe different bearing thickness? Perhaps they are also thicker and heavier I forget. Other guys on here have them, and could tell you more, or you could search for more info.

Yes, the Mexican blocks (289 HiPo's too) do have thicker main caps and webbing. I dunno about pushing a late model 5.0 block with 600 horses

The Ford Motorsport 'B-50' block is very similar to the Mex and K blocks, the difference being one piece rear main and provision for a roller camshaft
