Would there be a cam/lifters i could change to without having to do headwork on my stock 74 351W heads?? or would the stock cam be best until i change heads or go with a huge cam?since i only have about 8:1 compression i would like to do a rebuild and new heads when i go with the huge cam, so it'll cost alot more if headwork is involved Thanks guys/girls ------------------ 1974 Gran Torino, 351W Just a young buck My Page

Any good performance camshaft will want more compression, free-flowing exhaust, and a good intake/carb... but a Comp 268 or even 270H would be a good cam swap without any other mods. Headers are highly recommended, as is a hi-rise intake. Gears and a hot ignition would be a bonus ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

well i have a rpm air gap, a 1" 4 hole spacer, holley 670 carb, and will be getting hedman tork step headers, or hooker super comps (or clones) as well as 2.5" exhaust with thrush 45" glasspacks. A MSD 6al as well as a high vibration coil are also in the works.i have the positive stop studs, so can't go with a big cam...as comp says they will work "only with smaller cams" or should i not bother with the cam until i change the heads?? I'm kinda in a similiar situation with my 351. I have decided to do the heads with the cam. I was just going to cam it first, but that would be in mine and some others' opinion a wasted effort with the stock restrictive heads. I'm just waiting to save money to do the whole thing once and do it right. For now I say, stick to the intake, exhaust, and ignition mods (or if you have an automatic put a shift kit in for now). That way when it comes to the new cam and heads (the real power) the rest of your engine/drivetrain will be up to the task to take full advantage.
