2.835" would be what usually comes with 28 spline housings. The 31 spine housing usually had the large bearing 3.15"

Be careful... 31 slpine axles came with both the large and small bearings. Don't assume, take a few minutes and measure the bearing retainer bolt spacing on your housing and make sure you are ordering the right thing. Moser has an identification guide on their website that shows how to ID the bearing.

https://www.moserengineering.com/moser_interior/orderinginfo.htm

and then click on the template guide hyperlink to see the drawings.

Moser is a great outfit to deal with.

The easiest check I have found for bearing size is the socket used to remove the axle retaining nuts. If they use a 9/16" socket (3/8" T-stud), then they are the small 2.835" bearing. If you use a 3/4" wrench (1/2" T-stud) then they are the large 3.15 bearing.

This is pretty accurate in all cases of the 9" rear end.

The size of the nuts is not always the case. Mine had 9/16 nuts but it was the larger "New Style" as they called it. The bolt hole thing can be tricky too because the New Style big bearing is a combination of the old style and the small bearing. I say if you cant measure the bearing directly, measure the bolt holes carefully. I made this mistake and had to change axle ends to avoid having new axles made.
