I am getting my cash flow together and I want to build a 427. I would love to have about 500-550 horsepower n/a. Could this be done with a 236 duration hydraulic roller cam shaft with a nice size lift or what I have to go to a 240-250 duration. I am going to put this setup in a 79-93 mustang and want to achieve low 11's or high 10's. This will not be a daily driver, just a weekend bruiser and occasionally driven on a 100 mile trip. What gear would ya'll recommend? Thanks

if your set on the 427 instead of the 393 or 408 thats cool. but i would think a solid roller cam with 630 lift would be fine if your compression is up the obove 10.5 and your converter if its a auto is about 4000 to 4500..but thats just my .02...Bruce

Oops, thanks for reminding of that. I need to change my sig. It is windsor powered now, and officially KK's racecar. But, I didn't build that motor.

Tips ?,OK, First use the biggest free flowing heads you can find. Then build the rotating assly out of the best parts so it'll live with that looong stroke. The give it a solid roller cam duration depending on application. Not too small though, unless you want a stump pulling truck engine. Top it of with a Victor intake and 850-900 cfm carb. Ought to run low 10's once you get the car sorted out. Welcome to M&M! SteveW

I would stick to the 408 or 393 displaced stroker. The 427 gets a little too long and too fast of piston speed/rotating stability for me. Just my .02
