I took apart an 1988 AOD a year ago and I finally got it back together (well almost) the other day. Im at the very end of the build were Im putting the front pump back on. When you put the large clutches in the case you start with the pressure plate and then the steels and clutches and when you have the last steel in it looks like there is a snap ring that should hold the clutch pack in the case. There is a grove cut into the case at the very end that looks like a snap ring should go but I dont have it and all the pics and manuals I have do not show one. Lets back up a minute, you take the front pump off and is there a snap ring there that holds the clutch pack into the case.I just did a 1995 F250 at work that needed a front pump and converter and that one has a snap ring in it that holds the clutches in place so it got me thinking that Im missing it. I no the tranys are not the same but the grove thats cut into the cases look alike. Thanks any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks It looks like there is no snap ring in that pic as well. I might be ok. I just picked up another AOD I'll take it apart and see if it has one. Again Thanks Steve.....
