what are the dimensional differences between the two transmissions? i found one site that says the both have the same 19 1/2" width at the bell, and the c6 is 33 1/2" long where as the c4 is 29 9/16"

it also says the the "front edge to mount" is 18 13/16 on the c4 and 22 1/2 on the c6.

So my question is, what would make headers fit the one and not fit the other??

the c6 is wider as is the aod near the bell so headers designed to fit a c-6 will fit a aod and will give even more room to the 157 tooth c-4. the older 164 tooth was as wide as the c-6 and aod..the 164 tooth also had 11.75 inch bolt patter for the tq and the 157 use 10.5 the tq..Bruce

In racing c4 tran. are the best choice. lighter shift pattern is better. Easy to working more room around the header. jim1320

i allready have a c6, and it's in wonderful condition, so don't really want to swap it out only to get headers to fit if they can be massaged ones that fit a c4

When I ran a C6 in the Fairmont, the headers would touch the trans pan. It was almost impossible to keep the shift cable from touching the headers. After I switched to the C4, the headers had a lot of clearance and no more burnt shift cables.
I had no trouble with clearance around the bell. All of my problem was at the pan. C6 is a lot wider.
