I was thinking of getting a polyethylene (plastic) fuel cell but wont the weight of the stock fuel cell add more weight over the rear tires giving better traction?

t/c,A fuel cell is a safety item. If you save weight with it then you can add ballast weight where you want it. SteveW

it's a good idea to get one. Your gas tank wasn't designed for racing, the fuel cell is. Safer & better flow JS

they (Fuel safe) make a fuel cell type that is very strong and had a bladder for the fuel to store in so it wont leak out or rust out for that matter. These fit in the stock location of the 66-69 mustang and they are made of heavier gauge aluminum so they add to therear support as well.mustangs plus is on place to find them..Bruce

Just remember this, if you add a 'plastic' fuel cell that extends outside the 'enclosed' trunk, then it must have a metal shield around it to be NHRA legal. quote: General Safety Regs...Section 1.5 - Fuel Systems...Tanks: When permitted by class regulations, fuel tanks located outside body and/or frame must be enclosed in a steel tube frame constructed of minimum 1 1/4-inch O.D. x .065-inch (31.8 x 1.65 mm) chrome moly or .118-inch (3.0 mm) mild steel tubing. All fuel tanks must be isolated from the driver's compartment by a firewall completely sealed to prevent any fuel from entering the driver's compartment. All fuel tanks must have a pressure cap and be vented outside of body. A positive-locking screw-on fuel tank cap is mandatory on all open-bodied cars. Insulated fuel tanks prohibited. When used, fuel cells must have a metal box protecting the part of the cell which is outside of body lines or trunk floor, excluding hose connection area in rear. All non-metallic fuel cells must be grounded to chassis.
