Hi, I recently installed a new set of rancho 9000's in the rear (9 different settings) and set them on #5 part number RS99204. My 60's went from 1.61 to 1.58 this is good news but when I replaced my front 70/30's and went to 90/10's my 60's went back to 1.61! Should I stiffen up the rear end shocks to 7 or 8 or should I be going the other way looser at 3 or 4? I'm not familiar with these fancy adjustable rear shocks.
Thanks,
Brian

I'm bumping for Brian.

I am new to the adjustable shocks too. I just put Strange coil overs on the rear this spring. The front has 90/10 struts. My all time best 60' went from a 1.58 to a 1.56, but I still don't have the consistency I'm looking for. I still get some 1.6s. I've set them stiffer and softer, but I really don't have a handle on it yet.

Does any body have input?

OK I'll try,

You set the shocks firmer to slow the rear body lift. If you set them too stiff, you'll limit seperation but may lift the tire off the ground too.

Generally you want the passenger side stiffer than the drivers side. Start with a setting of 1 left, and 2 right. If the car goes straight and the body seperates too much, then try 2-3 etc. You want it as stiff as the track will hold it. If the track's traction is poor, loser settings with more rear seperation may plant the tire better because it won't hit the slicks as hard. The hit is being used up by raising the rear of the car instead of planting the tires.

How's that? Clear as mud?

Thanks Steve. That reassures my thoughts. I just need to get more track time to sort it out. There's always something.

Ben,

Video the launch and play it on slow motion. That's the only easy way to sort out what's happening. You can make the rear rock solid with the shocks, but unless the front raises quickly and the track has great traction it will blow the tires off it. It's trial and error, but at least knowing what the adjustments do will help you sort it out. Good luck,

I have video of the launch. The rear does not separate or squat at all. The front tire comes up quick with about 2 inches of air. That's on a decent track. I don't get that most of the time. So, I guess I have to soften the shocks to get more consistant 60's. The tires never appear to spin. The only problem is inconsistant 60's.

Ben,

If your tires aren't spinning, maybe it is a converter problem?

Gee, I hope not. It's a fairly new JPT 8". Less than a full season on it. It was a hugh improvment over my old converter.
60's very about .04
I'm a foot break racer. Knowing my inconsistancies, I install a 2 step, so I can launch at the same rpm every time. I'm still holding the car with the foot break. I don't have a trans break. I would like to do that in the future.

Ben,

Sounds like a good plan.
