My car is currently equipped with a 9" 3.00:1 open differential with 28 spline axles. I have a few questions in upgrading to 3.50 or 3.55 gears and Trac-loc. First off, I have hear that limited slip differentials do allow some slippage and can even allow one wheel burn outs. (Maybe when they wear out?) But a Detroit Locker will never let this happen. So is a Locker too extreme for the street? Or will a well built Trac-loc ensure dual snake trails every time? Next, what is the cheapest way to have all of this done? Do you know of any good places that sell the complete unit that are a little cheaper than currie? And finally are the 28 spline axles okay for a 350-400 horse engine? Or should I just go to 31 splines while am at it? Sorry, just venting alot of questions I have, please help in anyway, I don't know very much about this subject.Paul ------------------ 1970 Grande H code 351W FMX

check with Danny at Rear Gears, I think he can beat currie's prices. Tom's differentials in paramount Cali. is a Big traction Lok advocate. he claims he has run one under a alky rail car. Must be one pretty tough trac-lok. Who knows? JS

Speaking from experience, a Detroit Locker is fine on the street. You may hear a little noise when turning, but not much. And you will get traction to both wheels. A word of caution. Be sure you eliminate all wheel hop before you hammer it. We broke one and stripped the splines of a new Moser 31 spline axle after 12 passes at the strip because of the slightest of wheel hop. We added CEs Slide-A_Links and solved that problem. And this was on a car that has <300 rwhp.

Check Ford Racing's catalog. I just bought a set of clutches last spring. The price is probably better than you'll find anywhere and the quality won't be suspect (there's some aftermarket stuff out there I've seen at swap meets) I also think Ford Racing offers a complete rebuild kit for the traction loc.
