I just got my Air Flow Research catalog a couple days ago. I was looking at the dyno tests on the last page. They claim 455hp @ 6100rpm from 302cu with their 185 heads, 10:1, 650cfm demon carb, msd, XE282 hyd-roller, and Victor jr intake on 92 octane. Already near 300 ft/lb at 2000 rpm too! I've heard nothing but good things about their products and this sounds like the perfect combo for me. Do those numbers seem obtainable to you guys with that setup? Thanks ------------------ Brandon ------------------------ '66 Mustang coupe Fresh but stock 302 Holley 4V/Edelbrock Streetmaster 289 intake Tri-y Headers/2.5" dual exhaust C4 Front disk brakes 8" 300 open rear Stock heads and cam Purchased car 06/2003 Goal: 12 second beautiful but mean daily driver.

Sure. I'm certain there's plenty of details that AFR isn't disclosing, but put it this way: they'd be foolish to make un-repeatable performance claims ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

Just keep in mind that it's only 302 c.i.. To get a 302 to support that combination you will have to use aftermarket pistons and a well prepped bottom end. They used custom 1 3/4" headers which would be almost impossible to fit on a early Mustang and also they can eliminate any HP robbing components off the front and rear of the engine. I'm sure they used some expert engine tuning and a lot of dyno time to get those numbers. In the real world I would expect something closer to 400 HP. It should still make for a very potent little screamer! ------------------ 1966 Mustang Coupe: Custom glass hood and BIG scoop sits atop a 289 stroked to 331 c.i., Steel crank and girdle, 5.4 H-beams, Forged slugs, TFS alum. heads, ported Stealth 8020 intake, Xtreme 274 Solid Roller, Holley 750 HP, long tubes, 4speed, 9" 3.50 posi. 11.86 @ 116 mph (7.62 @ 93 mph)full street trim! There's an article out, it's either PHR or Car Craft, where they bolted a set of AFR heads onto a stock bottom end 302 (with stock GT roller cam), in combination with headers, edelbrock's new dual plane intake(I'm drawing a blank as to what it's called right now) and Barry Grant carb. They got 400hp out of this combo! ------------------ '68 mustang 351 clevor- 10.92@124 '67 Stang, 351W -11.18@118 '69 351C Torino-14.90@100 '78 Pickup 351W-15.56@88 '79 Pickup 460 ET=??

Rustang, that was car craft, and they used a weiand stealth intake, not an edelbrock.------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. I have their 185 non-emission head with ,air-gap,super-comp,mighty demon750 with 10.5 to 1 comp. and pulled 331.8 to rear wheels,so 400 at flywheel should be fairly accurate. This is with a 289 not a 302.Also had 287 ft lbs torque.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I assumed it would take a LOT of tuning to pull those numbers. I still like the combo though. I plan on building the bottom end right. Maybe those Summit "stage 2" rods, forged slugs, and all the right machine work. I'm also going to use a solid cam and probably a Holley carb. I think 380-400 crank hp will be enough entertainment my first engine build. ------------------ Brandon ------------------------ '66 Mustang coupe Fresh but stock 302 Holley 4V/Edelbrock Streetmaster 289 intake Tri-y Headers/2.5" dual exhaust C4 Front disk brakes 8" 300 open rear Stock heads and cam Purchased car 06/2003 Goal: 12 second beautiful but mean daily driver.
