I've got a good memory, it's just short...I can't remember how to find out if a cam is cut advanced retarded or straight up. I thought you took the exhaust closing time and the intake opening time to find out how the cam is cut... is this right???

Tkx for the link Steve!... although I didn't see anything about how to figure out if a cam has advance ground into the camshaft on that page....A long time ago, there was an article on camshafts in one of the car magazines that was really great on camshafts... but for the life of me I can't find the dang thing. grrrr

Look at the lobe centrelines. If they're the same then it's straight up. If the intake is 114 and the exhaust is 112 then you have 2 degrees advance on the intake.Paul [This message has been edited by Clevo377 (edited 06-24-2003).]

If the intake is 112? and the exhaust is 114?, then the camshaft is only one degree advanced. The particular example used is a camshaft ground on 113? centers and the 112? intake lobe center would only be 1? from straight up. Had the intake been on 114? instead of 112?, then the camshaft would have been 1? retarded.
