is it something that a newbie like me would be able to handle? or should it be done by a professional?

depending on what year mustang you have and where u wanna mount it.

i have a 1990 gt where the msd 6 al is located on the passenger side fenderwell under the hood but the is the tfi adapter u have 2 buy so the hook up of the box is like cake work then all u have 2 do is run a seperate wire from the tach 2 the box instead of having it at the coil

If you go w/ the MSD box I think it's easier and better to use all fresh new wire and set up a fused switch (under dash, in glovebox, etc.) to turn the ignition on and off, rather than trying to wire into the existing ignition switch and having to deal w/ the jungle of old wire under the dash. You'll have to drill some small holes and you'll need a soldering iron and some miscellaneous electrical connectors and shrink wrap/electrical tape to do the job.

Wiring depends on where you mount the box. My box is mounted on the passenger side radiator support and I just picked up the old wire to the coil and ran it and the wires from the box to the coil with the alt wires. I ran the trigger wire from my MSD distributor to the box to the left side of the engine bay and over the top of the radiator under the lip, MSD suggest keeping the trigger wire away from the other wiring.
