Just wondering if some of you with a 390-396 range 351Windsor strokers could list off your secret recipies to a successful powerful & reliable stroker. Yea yeah I know a good balance job & not buying cheapo components is one of them, but I am wondering if I could get some company names to look @ for parts, For example I was looking @ Scat for my crank, & Crower for my cam, ford racing for my harm. balancer Msd dizzy ,& Keith Black pistons, other than that I havent gone too far. I just want to add that Im young & have only rebuilt a couple engines (stock) & I know this one is going to put me into debt ,but Id rather be in the hole once & not have to rebuild it twice because of my inexperience & I know alot of you will tell me to take it to an expert well I plan to let the experts do what I cant (I dont have much machinery) & how am I going to learn if I let an expert do it ?[This message has been edited by Kellxr7 (edited 06-19-2003).]

Get a stroker kit, like one of these. Have it balanced before they ship it to you. The cheaper cranks can cost you more to balance than a better crank. There are many other suppliers and I'm not recomending FlatLander, it was just a handy reference. Not that I've heard anything bad about them. http://www.flatlanderracing.com/stroker351w396.html When you're putting a stroker assembly into a stock block you'll have to clearance the block so that everything clears. It's the difference between building an engine vs. assembling one. Good luck, SteveW

BTW,Stay away from the hyper pistons, any of the bottom three kits will work and last at higher rpms. If you have to run low rpms the extra stoke isn't gonna help much. Remember that the piston speeds really increase with the extra stroke and try to pull your pistons in two. SteveW

Also,Those extra cubes will need good flowing heads, I mean very good heads for a 351w will only be average with the extra cubes trying to breathe thru them. Think Vic Jrs The Cam will be bigger than a 351w cam too for the same result. As long as you're stroking it why not go to a 408w or bigger? You'll need Hooker super comp headers too. SteveW

i like the 393 better than the 408 if its for the street and strip the 408-410 for the track.. too much block work with the 408. 408 needs the later 50oz. harmonic and flexplate and the 393 uses the 302/351 early non 5.0 28oz..I use the victor jr and harland sharp rocker made special for victor jr. I also use a 633 lift hydro roller cam..if you are going to do the roller cam email me i will tell you some useful info..Bruce

The newest Eagle stuff is neutral balance. There was a mixup with my brothers 408 kit and he ended up with a 375 crank. The replacement crank was much lighter and neutral balance. Much nicer looking piece.

I forgot to add, I am thinking of using AFR 205cc heads. Good idea?
