I am using a Melling Hi-volume oil pump in a 460CJ which I am building for a friend. This pump is the 'CobraJet' type with a bolt-on pickup pipe instead of the usual push-fit pickup of the base models. Problem is that the pickup hits the sump so much that it holds the sump flange about 3/16" from the gasket face of the block. Any ideas how to get clearance, or do I have to cut and weld this sucker?
Cheers, Martin.

My understanding is the non-CJ pick is 1/4" or so shorter. I had to cut and reweld mine so I had between 1/4" and 3/8" from floor of pan.

BTW, I cut mine up by the oil pump flange and reamed out the old piece of tube and then welded the remainder of the pickup back to this flange with a mig welder.

Thanks T-bird, what you say makes sense as far as distances are concerned. Funny, I was thinking of doing the same thing as you have done, making the change at the bolt-on flange to keep it neat (not that anyone will ever see it).
Cheers, Martin.
