I just took the LOUD Holley Blue pump off my car and replaced it with a Comp 140 Mallory that I got off ebay In like new condition. The pump is alot quieter than the Holley. But I notice sometimes it takes a little longer(10 seconds or so) to push up my fuel pressure guage when I first turn it on,other times it goes right up. Also I put my hand on the pump after going for a drive and it seems pretty hot. Do any of you have one of these pumps ,and is all of this normal? I dont want to wind up stranded on the side if the road.------------------ http://maverickgrabber.iwarp.com

It should never get "hot". Get out your multi-meter and vewrify how much voltage you have going to it.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 First SS/MA in the TENS! I have a Comp 250 and it never really gets warm at all.I would check to see that your wirin is up to par.Or there could be something in the pump clogging it.I hope you have a good filter before the pump. Bob

I've got a Carter pump and have noticed it's been hot as well. I've brushed it off until now. What should the voltage be at the +/- when the car is running? I assume 12v-14v. I did install a relay.Erik ------------------ 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Mine - Restomod in Progress 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Dad's - Original Unrestored

Wondering if someone used RTV for the fittings and some of it got inside the relief vavle area. If the pump can't relieve the excess pressure and recirculate within the pump the unused gas, then it will overheat to some extent.Might be time to pull the bottom of the pump off and check it. Some of the IDIOTS out there need a license to buy RTV for it is over used in a lot of cases and causes more problems than it fixes. If this applies to you anyone here, I refuse to appologize for my bluntness.

It doesn't apply to me, but looks like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today . Erik ------------------ 1966 Ford Mustang 2+2 Mine - Restomod in Progress 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe Dad's - Original Unrestored [This message has been edited by rockafellz (edited 06-04-2003).]

No RTV . I took the bottom of the pump apart and looked at everything before I installed it . I don`t have a relay installed ...maybe I should get one. This pump (and the old one) is not installed with a return line but it does have a Mallory cannister type filter befoer the pump, and a Holley blue regulator near the carbs. I will check the Voltage today . ------------------ http://maverickgrabber.iwarp.com

Nope, not on the wrong side of the bed. Just here recently I have had to scrape a lot of RTV off parts and yes, a Mallory Comp 140 pump around the fittings. This person I bought these parts from thought that if a little RTV is good, a lot of RTV must be better. He had put RTV around every intake port, both sides of the timing cover gasket, both sides of both water pump gaskets, the water/thermostat housing, valve cover gakets had RTV also and lets not forget the oil pan gakets had RTV too.

You dont know how many nitrous solenoids, fuel pumps, and carbs i pulled apart clogged to the gills with tefflon tape! I dunno about rtv being a problem but flaked up teflon tape is my worst enemy at the shop.

I had no luck with my Mallory 140 ... i found the gears inside trying to gall on the cover. Loosening the little allen head screws till it just started to leak (while pump running) freed it up, but i sure wouldn't want to have to trust that for a street car.

I have two Mallory 140's on my car. One has been on there for over 10 years... It's the primary pump (engine) and has never given a hint of trouble. It's got about a bazillion hours on it, and is like the energizer bunny. I've never even had to do any maintenance or rebuild it.However, for real street cars I recommend mechanical pumps for their reliability and simplicity. They will feed 500hp just fine. My buddy still runs a mechanical pump on his racecar. It runs 10 flat without any problems. Some of them mechanical pumps flow a ton of fuel. His requires a pressure regulator.
