I am going to throw on a Weiand X-Cellerator 7517 and a 950HP on my 377 Cleveland 4V and was wondering if it should be portmatched to the heads or just run it the way it is?What have you guys done with yours? ------------------ Brian, 1970 Mach 1, 377C, Shaker, 4-Speed

Go with the Edelbrock torker if you cant get a strip dominator. They are plentiful and cheap. The torker is a much better all around intake. I have tried both extensively! The torker is good for .15 in the quarter and is much more responsive on the low end. Sell the Weiand! If that's the intake you have to use, I would port the runners entirely, and do some plenum work to extend the runners into the plenum as far as I could. I would also try and run as much open spacer on top of it as possible to increase the plenum volume. That intake is going to be the part the hinders power the most in your combo.

Tried to tell him that but he insists on keeping that shaker factory functional. You are going to lose way more power using that intake than the shaker is going to give you by far. 377 cubes, a 950HP a nice big cam and no way to injest air properly...Shame on you

Also, if your weiand is anything like the xcellorator I have, it will NEED a lot of work. The one I have was the "dirtiest" casting I have ever seen. There was actually so much casting flash in the middle of one end runner that I had to cut a hole in the bottom of that runner to clean out the flash (it went clear around the inside of the runner and hung down almost a 1/4").

Sorry guys, the shaker has to stay. I am actually looking into the shaker thing, I might be able to get a lower height (3/4") shaker base and run a torker. Problem is the shaker stuff is expensive. But for now, I have this intake, sold my Speed Demon and another intake so the new carb is on the way so I want to run this until the shaker thing irons out. I am looking for a decent Torker to buy or maybe a Strip Dominator (I know MRXEROX you had a strip I should have got) if the height thing works out. I don't want the shaker for power, it's just the cool factor. Besides, If I get rid of it that means I have to have an entire new hood bought and painted up with no hole. So, I should port it up to get the most out of it right? I will take your advice Kid. ------------------ Brian, 1970 Mach 1, 377C, Shaker, 4-Speed

If you gotta have a shaker have you considered milling down a torker ? I don't know how much has to come off ,may not be doable. About port matching ,I have been doing some port mapping as of late and the area around the pushrod tube on the left is a high velocity area if you grind the pushrod tube down flat raise the roof about an 1/8 inch and port the intake to suit ,it should help . I haven't done the whole bit yet but so far from my velocity probing this seems to be the right way to go about it . The area high and to the left is high velocity port there to even out velocity thru the port.
