I recently purchased a set of Hooker,Part#6208, super comp headers. The reason I started this post is because on a previos thread someone stated that Hooker Super Comps are a "high" quality header. This is the only set of hookers I have owned and I was disappointed with the quality. I had to spend approximately 1.5 hours on each header grinding out welding slag that was left there and then coated over. So basically I had to grind off some of that nice ($200) coating. I think this is Bull Sh*t, you pay $600 for a set of headers and then have to grind on them. It's just not right!!! OK, now that i've gotten that off my chest I feel much better!! I'm stepping down from the soap box now!!

I just ordered a set of super comps after I accidently crushed the custom built stepped headers on my D/SA 429SCJ car. Hooker is the only company that makes an off-the-shelf header for my car and I don't have time to have a new set of custom headers made if I want to race this summer. I'm hoping that they are decent quality and fit properly. They should for as much as they cost.I'll let you know when I get them.

I installed a set of (uncoated) Hooker super comps on the 289 in my 66 coupe and had to torch and pound flat spots in a couple places to get them to fit, I also ground a little of the flange off in a few spots. I didn't notice any welding slag however. I think a call to Hooker is in order, they might hook you up with a fresh set. Better yet, if you have to torch and pound them for a little clearance, maybe Hooker would recoat them for you after you have them set up for your ride. Worth a shot. Also, I'm a UNC-Asheville grad. GREAT TOWN !!

The set that I purchased last year were very nice. Did you call Hooker and talk to them? Did you take pictures before, to back your complaint. These things all help, If you don't get satisfaction on the Tech Line ask for Corp. Headquarters. Stay on the Soap Box, Let them know. At the last Goodguys event at Infineon the K&N guys were there and I showed them my First generation X-treem top and how it was warping. They took my name and address and the next Tuesday UPS delivered a brand new top of the new design. NO CHARGE Just a thank you for using their Product. Don't start bad mouthing right away just tell them of their reputation for quality and that was the reason that you made a decision to purchase Hooker Products, then express your displeasure with the quality of your purchase. Also have a resolution that you will settle for. Perhaps a recoat? ------------------ Glen 67 GT 390 65 Galaxie 500 XL 4 Speed It was not a Red Light they gave me a Slow Tree I WAS NOT LATE the Tree was Fast

If you have a problem with a product, never EVER decide to fix it on your own. Call the company as soon as you see the problem, and explain the situation. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to have the set exchanged. Now that you've modified them, you own them. As far as the coating goes, you can beat the cr*p out of it and it'll just get a little marred up, mag & aluminum polish will fix that. I always buy the uncoated set, fit & adjust them to the chassis, then have them coated. If it doesn't have a Ford part #, don't ever assume it'll fit correctly the first time. Nature of the beast my friends, get used to it, especially with headers. The only set I didn't have to modify/massage was the Hooker 6915's in my 71 Mach. They practically installed themselves. If you want fun and excitement, go install a set of headers on a Pontiac in any GM chassis. That is truly a PITA. Any Ford is a piece of cake compared to that ordeal, except for the Crites 460 headers in a 67 Fairlane Cv't, OMG!!! [This message has been edited by Hemikiller (edited 06-02-2003).]

My super comps fit real well, and were of good construction. They fit tight (the passenger side pipe has to go in before the motor), but they don't hit anywhere and didn't need modified. The next set I want to buy are Hedmans, but I bet they wont fit as easily. The hedders I have now are 1 7/8" pimaries, the Hedmans have 2 1/8" primaries.

I called Hooker shortly after buying the headers, they said that they receive the flanges with the first 4 inches or so of the primary tube already welded on and then they just complete the header and then coat them. They said they could not help me with my problem but that is just how they are made. My budy just got a set of Kooks headers for his mustang, they're stainless and they anly cost $100 more then my Hookers. The kooks make the hookers look like JUNK !!!!

Hey CometGT 1974, Do you know for sure if the Kooks will fit (or can be made to fit) your Comet? If you happen to wind up getting them let me know what you`d take for the Hookers!

As far as I know the Kooks headers will not work in my application. Kooks said that one pipe on each side "might" work and that all the others would probably need to be heavily modified so you might as well start from scratch!! The Hookers are the best "band-aid" fix that I can find right now so I guess i'll run them for awhile.

Well, my headers came to day and they looked very nice. Only problem was that they were the wrong ones. The box had the right number on it, but the headers in the box didn't match the number. I guess it should have been in spanish?Oh well, Jegs is sending another set, and hopefully they will be the right ones....

I installed a set of the coated hooker super comps on my 65 fastback and they fit good although it is close in a few places, they do not hit anywhere. I did not see any welding slag.------------------ 67convertible 289/auto 65fastback 302/4sp

So the replacement set for my '71 429 came today from Jegs. Very nice. Nice welds, nice coating. 2 1/8" tubes and 3 1/2" collector. Passenger side went on in lesss than 15 minutes. Seriously. Very easy, beautiful fit. Driver side took two hours. I did not have to ding anything, but I did have to rework the slip-tubes some so they slid in easier. I also had to trim the flange a little on one removable tube to get enough slack to slide into the collector stub. Once on, they are very, very nice. I don't look forward to taking the driver side back off for any reason, but maybe they will loosen up with time and heat.I'm satisfied with Hookers.
