Beech Bend Sportsnationals was my first outing of the year with a new engine in my D/SA '71 Mustang with the 429SCJ and a C4. All went well for three passes, with the best of a 10.96 @ 120. Had the two other D/SA cars (both Chevelles) covered by over 3 tenths. Then disaster....On a burnout, the converter pump seal came right out of the pump. The seal itself looked fine, but it pushed right out of the pump housing. Needless to say, there was a serious trans fluid gusher. I think that I had the trans a little overfilled as there was some fluid blow-out from the vent on earlier passes, but not a lot. I wonder if foaming the fluid could cause the seal to push out, or if it just was not installed right? Anyone seen such a thing before? Does anyone have a part number for the converter/pump seal? Ford P/N or any commercial seal manufacturer's number would be great. Thanks!

I had one push out once, when I replaced it I used Locktight on it, after that it didn't push out anymore but it did push fluid out past the lip of the seal. Seemed like it ussally did it on the return road, after making a run. I finally found the problem, it was a stuck main pressure valve in the valve body. You might want to check line pressures. Roger
