In an attempt to get my car more consistent when humidity increases, I have been leaning out my toilet. I started with an 83 pill and the next size bigger I had was an 85. Last week I ran that pill all day and the consistency wasn't real bad but exhaust temps were around 1140 - 1150. This week, I decided to go a little leaner and had an 86 pill and an 88. I went with the 86 on Sat. I was shooting fo about 1200 degrees on exhaust. I had one really clean time trial pass out of 4 and went 6.40 at around 107 MPH. Exhaust was 1180 - 1190. The week before on the 85 pill. ETs were in the lower 6.30s. The motor didn't really sound happy all day and water temps were pretty high, hittng 200 a couple of times. It slowed down in the first round also and I lost quite convincingly. EGT was 1220. Sunday morning (2 day race) I went back to the 85 pill. It sounded much better and went 6.319 at over 108 MPH the first pass and 6.318 the second pass. Exhaust was 1140 or so. My good luck last week caught up with me as I had to run the 01 top ET champ in the first round. His car is a tube chassis Firebird that runs Top Sportsman. 4.96 on the window. I dialed tight at 6.31 and knew I'd have to saw down the tree. I went .4998 red. RATS! I bought back and got lined up with the top ET champ 4 out of the last 5 years. Dragster with 4.74 on the pro dial. Sheesh! I now know what its like to have 2 really fast cars go blowin by at the stripe. For any toilet guys out there, does it make sense that one pill size should make that much difference? One buddy says his takes 5 sizes for any noticeable difference. DV, Back when I ran a toliet on a 351c 1 pill change would definately make a difference. I have a formula that your welcome to borrow but you need to get the area of all the jets from Ron's. It will tell you the percent change in fuel that a jet size will make. You need the area of both pills. I'll see if I can round it up and send it to you. JS

When you say the area, I assume that means the number of square Millimeters, or what ever the unit of measure might be. Square inches would be pretty small.I was also wishing I had an 84. There are some holes in my selection. I might try to fill those voids. I imagine I could get some from Rons. Its looking like I might want one of each from 80 - 90 and I know I don't. Where did you try to keep your exhaust temps? ------------------ 63 Falcon 377 Cleveland stroker Flying Toilet alchohol injection. 6.19 @ 110 MPH 1/8 mile 2002 Ranger FX4 daily driver 2000 F350 PSD Crew cab dually - Like commuting in a B52!! 98 US Cargo Phantom II 28'

KK's brother tried to get some of those odd sizes from Ron's, and they said they don't sell them because once they actually started to flow test them, there wasn't enough flow difference to warrant changing them. But, maybe he was talking about injector sizes? Would still be worth a call to Ron's to find out.

they say 1150 for alky in the 1/4mile. BUT every car is different. I shoot for 100-1200 and then I tune it by ET slip, then I look at the EGT and if it gets off of what the EGT slip says I tune BACK to what the best EGT was. Also when I get the idle set where I like it and the main jet good, I take my leak down tester and see what it is set for. Then if you change the main jet you can use that to get your barrel valve set right. I know we leave at WOT but it is important to get the BV set right. Did you try askin the guys at the HRE forum? some of those guys run TOP Fuel and know TON more than yours truly about Mech F.I. JS

DV, Here is what mine ran yesterday. It ran horrible the first pass way to rich, wrong jet in the hat ( 3 gallons first pass, EGT was 1010 ) & the burn out chip in the 3 step was way too low. Came back and put a higher RPM chip in the 3 step and a bigger jet in the return line for that hat, and ran the car. It clicked off a 5.62 @ 122 MPH in the 1/8th, ( EGT was 1120 ) shifted at 6000 rpm and left on a 4000 chip. I know there is more in the combo. Not much traction at the track I went to. The adj shocks need setting a click or two also. I wanted to take it easy on first pass for a new motor. MAn is it a relief that is behind me now. It's been a little over a year since the wreck when I ran over some guys tranny fluid on the big end at Fulton and went through about 75 ft of guard rail and cyclone fence. It's good to be back in the saddle again. Very happy Camper. JS

I'll bet the nerves were on the edge after an experience like that. The first few passes on a new combo are bad enough let alone after a long layoff from a crash.Sounds like you are back in business.
