I need help in choosing a gear for my car. I just did the 5-lug conversion on my 92 coupe. I am running the pro star rims with 275/60 BFG's with a 3.73 gear. With the bigger tires it has taken away my gear a good bit. I have the Holley Systamax II kit with the usual bolt ons. My question is do I go with the 4.10 or the 4.30? What would the 4.30 be like in the 1/4?

Thanks,

James

James,
Play around with the below formula:

http://users.erols.com/srweiss/calcmph.htm

- by plugging in different gear ratios with your tire diameter, trans gearing, etc. you can determine what gear will work the best for your car. Remember to keep in mind, the rearend gearing is just a part of your performance combination; do you care about gas mileage, engine longivity, being able to hear inside the car, or whether or not you've got enough engine power to deliver the necessary power to keep the power twisting to the gears! Good Luck!

I'm not sure I'd spend the money for the difference but maybe a milder bump up to something like 3.90's would make things like they were. What did the web site recommend?

4.10s will put you back where you were.
Many T5 guys run 4.10s with a 26" tire.

4.30s with that 28" tire will get you 126mph @ 6500rpm in 4th gear.

Go for 4.30s if you don't need to drive on long trips.
