Finally switched to Royal Purple synthetic racing oil in my 557 BBF rear engine dragster. I bought the Racing 51. It's supposed to be similar to a 20W50. That's thick, I know, but the engine has always had 20W50 Kendall due to the alcohol and the clearances were set up for thick oil.Anyways, there was no difference in ET, but a big gain in mph. The no diff in ET is prob due to having a "soft hit" converter. The 60 ft has always been slow compared to the ET and mph. 60 fts come in at 1.122-1.127, 4.95 in the 1/8. The 1/8 mile mph went from 140.30 to 143.56 on the Kendall to Royal Purple swap. All I can say is 143 and change in the 1/8 is hauling. Does someone have some kind of formula to figure HP gained? The dragster weighs 1830 lbs with me, ready to race. Gained 3.26 mph. Later, David Cole

Morning Dave, Some folks say this is a fairly accurate calculator: http://users.erols.com/srweiss/calchpm8.htm With your data of: @ 140.30 @ 1830# = 733.99HP then @143.56 @ 1830# = 786.36HP -- produced a difference of 52.37HP!! - I'D SAY, NOT TOO SHABBY! Looks like you've got that BBF of yours cookin' right along!! GOOD JOB!! Ryan

I just filled my crankcase with Royal Purple this afternoon. Although not a race car, I got a 'seat of your pants' power increase by simply an oil change. Bonus: 10-15 degrees lower running temp! One of these days when I can afford it again, I'll have a crankcase full of 5W-20 RP in the racecar.
