Hey guys I'm looking to free up some more hp.Taking off my power steering belt is always good for a tenth. What about an electric water pump drive?Any before and after comparisons?I would think the water pump would take at least as much power as the power steering, probably a lot more.

I gained the most by going from a flex fan to an electric fan. Almost 3 tenths! I would say the water pump would gain you around 1 tenth and 1 tenth for the power steering.

I doubt it'll be much quicker. The real advantage is cooling the engine between rounds. If you can run the electric fan and water pump w/o the engine running that will cool the engine quickly.

I've always been under the impression it was worth about a tenth to get the water pump off the crank. I could be wrong though.

I should mention that I think .1 in the quarter is "not much". On a slower/13 second ride it's probably less than .1, but I could be wrong, Heck I'm still running a cast Iron belt driven stock water pump on the 408w. But if someone donated an electric pump I would run it but mostly for the cooling abilities between hot lapped rounds.

KK's brother is still running a factory iron water pump on his 408W. And it runs 5.70's in the 1/8.

If I can remember on my '70 when it was running mid 12's, the electric water pump drive was worth around a tenth. It might have been a touch more, but I don't remember exactly. And since i was a beginner, I wasn't logging anything down at that time so I have no actuall records of it.

This isnt very scientific but my power steering pump feels harder to turn by hand than the water pump.

I know that with increase engine speed the parasitic load is probably not linear, but I would think the water pump probably takes less than the power steering.

We got 2 tenths by using a csi pump in a 90 notchback with a stroked 302 . Not too shabby i was always a firm disbeliever in electric pumps especially on street cars but now im thinking a little more csi claims there pump was run for 5500 constant hours durring tests .
