Those of you running a toploader, I was wondering what brand of fluid you favor running in it??------------------ "In the wise words I was once told bye Jiggy"

MTL is awfully thin, but Redline offers a MT-90, that is a thicker version of the MTL. It is still only a GL-4 (non hypoid) oil. I believe GL-5 (hypoid) oils are recommended for toploaders. They do offer 90wt hypoid oil that comes without friciton modifier for those that need to run GL-5 oil in their transmissions. It's their 75w90NS.I've had decent luck with Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, but may try switching. Ford's generic recommendation is 90w gear oil. http://www.redlineoil.com/frames/gearoil.htm#GEAR Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220 [This message has been edited by n2oMike (edited 05-22-2003).]

valvoline 80w 90. David Kee recommends either this or pensoil 80w-90 or 85w-140. He claimes that synthetic is too slippery and the scynchronizers can't work, because they use friction to work. I would recommend 80w-90 as that is what I use in my tranny and it works just fine, even when I power shift it! ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. The main bad thing about non-synthetic oil... is that it is VERY THICK and viscous before it gets fully warmed up, and won't shift well. It will work great once the trans comes up to temperature, but when it's cold.... fuuuugetabouuut it!Good Luck! ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

Mine shifts just fine when cold, but I am running 80w-90 not 85w-140. ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear.
