i now run an electric water pump drive with a fan on the water pump. i am thinking about taking the fan off to take some pressure of off the little motor. i burn up about 2-3 per year just racing. what electric fan would work the best? is it a tarus fan? do they push or pull? i think i want to wire it in the same circuit as the water pump drive motor so that both will run when turned on. what do yall think? i need some ideas. thanks------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.51 @89mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://prestage.com/site/site_display.asp?SiteID=141

Mike_r, I'm using a MOROSO electric water pump drive with the larger drive pulley (14-tooth?) to roll my Milodon aluminum hi-vol water pump. With my H20 pump pulley, it rolls the water pump about 900 rpms. I wired it to run manually from a toggle switch. I turn it on when I turn on the electric fuel pump. Typically, I will keep it running until I see that the temp is below 175*. For cooling, I'm using a Flex-A-Lite dual electric radiator fan unit mounted in the pull position. The fan unit has a thermocouple I installed in the upper rad hose, so it will come on when it reaches the set temp. It came with a dial controller which allows me to adjust the start/stop temps. I have it set to come on/off at 180*. However, I also wired in an override switch so I can manually turn the fans on if I desire - in case the thermocouple fails to activiate the fan unit. They both pull quite a bit of electricity, so if you decide to wire them together make sure you provide an ample-sized wire and make sure that you fuse them separately. Just my 2 cents - It works for me! Ryan ------------------ The '3-Pedal Attitude' Kid In a '69 FB w/ 4-spd'd 306", but the 460+ is on the stand!

The way my car is set up works great. I run the typical electric water pump drive, and use the overdrive pulley on it spinning a Weiand hi flow water pump. It is wired up seperately from the electric fan. Ihad a problem with them wired together pulling too many amps and constantly popping the fuse (always at the worst time too). I run a PermaCool 16" fan mounted to pull. It draws a good amount of air, and does not draw a lot of amps (good for a racecar). Most of the factory fans are amp pigs and are not good for a race car. My fan pulls 2100 cfm of air, and draws less than 9 amps (you now when it's on, it pulls a bunch of air thru the radiator without a big amp draw). It had the best cfm to amp draw (in my opinion) out of all the aftermarket fans I looked at (and I did a lot of research on it before I bought one for this car). They aren't cheap like a junkyard fan, but in this case, you get what you pay for. I would ather have a fan that cost a little more money that doesn;t kill my battery. (and yes, I run an alternator.)Even on gas, if I unblock the gill, it won't get hot and cools off quickly even with a filled block. Something doesnt seem right if you are burning up that many motors. I have only burned up 2 in 11 yrs of racing. Make sure the belt is loose, and not tight. A tight belt kills those little motors. Either that, or how heavy of a fan have you been using?

Mike,You mean you are driving a mechanical fan with the water pump drive, yes an electric fan will help a bunch! I use a cheapo 16" electric fan on the 408 and it works fine. SteveW

Mike the Perma-Cool PRM-19115 has a 16" blade and pulls 2,950 cfm of air.. That is one of the highest rating and they are less than $100..I do believe Alex sells them.. Don

More than likely it will work, but it will pull an excessive amount of amps. I'm really picky on my racecar about the amount of amps everything pulls, and factory electric fans are terrible about how many amps they draw.
