Well Alex sounds like he's leaning towards the cjs ever so slightly . I don't know any better so I'll follow his reccomendations . Glen I appreciate your offer but I guess I'll pass I like to roll my own you know I'd still like some flow figures before I commit any capital to this venture though , I don't like working in the dark , I've been to the fe forum a bunch but I cant seem to log in somethings not right with my "configuration".

The C6AE-R head is very similar to the CJ head. The problem with is the exhaust bolt pattern. I think there are two versions: one with the vertical 8 bolt pattern and the GT 14 bolt pattern for Mustang/Fairlane. On the GT version, the outside top exhaust bolt holes are too low and you have to redrill the holes higher. It is missing the center two low bolt holes. You can drill these too, but must be careful not to hit the water passage. If you are running a Galaxy any bolt pattern will work. The big advantages of the C6-R head are the cost and that it has the small 2.03 and 1.5 exhaust valves so you can just get larger valves installed and don't have to get exhaust seats installed to correct sunken exhaust valves. If you look at CJ heads the exhaust valves are usually low. I had a few new sets and they came that way from the factory. You can get a set of the C6 R heads for half the price of a CJ set unsually. I would consider the C6 head unless I could find a set of CJ heads which already had the exhaust seats put in. You can end up spending so much, it comes close to the cost of Edel heads. According to a lot of the FE guys, the ports on the early low riser type heads are pretty similar. Just mainly different valve sizes and some have thermactor bumps/holes (the later ones). The early ones usually have the 8 bolt exhaust pattern for other than Mustang/Fairlane +Mercury equivalents. JMHO [This message has been edited by afret (edited 05-15-2003).]

Is there a reason Edelbrocks are out on your choice? I just ported a set and with 10.6 compression am pulling 412 rear wheel horse at 6200 rpm. I could get more with higher compression and possibly running a beter intake but I only needed to run mid 11's since I have no roll bar.Since you are racing the cooling ability of the Ebrocks would be a bonus.

I'm sticking with factory iron just cause I'm a diehard , we'll probably put this thing in a 64 fastback galaxie with an r code c6 ,and just make a footbraker out of it , not gonna spend much money on it . I got the car for 250 dollars and I just thought it would be cool to stick with an fe since we got a bunch of fe stuff anyway .We are trying to build a consistent ,low maintenance 7.25-7.50 1/8 mile car.
