There is a local guy that runs a speedshop in town here that was a NHRA racer, and he strongly advised me that he thought my thoughts on cam choice were TOO BIG!

So he suggested something smaller, didn't say what, but said i should go smaller.

I was looking at the Magnum 270H from Comp, this is for a 351W with 9:1 comp, Holley Vaccum secondary 670, Headers, and reworked heads (or Worlds depending on what seems to be the best bang for the buck), MSD 6al ignition, blaster 2 coil

This is for my 3800 lb torino

And he said "I don't know who is telling you about engine stuff but i think they are off on the cam choice"

He said the 270H was too big?

Maybe he was thinking 270 @ .050?

Run AWAY!!!
With reasoning like that, I bet he was also a multiple national record holder like a certain moderator of this board.

You're cam choice sounds fine to me. But your choice of speedshops is questionable.

he has nothing in stock, and takes about 2 months to order a part, and charges 100s more than other shops....so i go to him to talk about combos but that's about it.

So that's why i was confused by his thought that 224 @ 0.05 was too much cam for a large displacement engine like the 351

I guess I'm the odd man out here.

I would agree that on a car thats weight is 3800 lbs. and I'm guessing will be street driven that the 270 would be a good limit. Definitely no more then a 270. That heavy of a car needs all the help it can get getting out of the hole. IMHO
