Hi all, I need some guidence in finding the cause of pinging in my wifes Mitsubish Cordia (non turbo). In the process of service I have just replaced the plugs, leads, Dist cap, Rotor, filters etc. (The piniging was happening before this by the way) Timing is set at +13(manufacturers specs) I believe the timing marks are ok as it runs like a dog at around +5(still pings though). Have topped the tank with octane booster. Still pings. Temp is ok.Any thoughts?? Paul

First, check the EGR valve operation and that the EGR ports are clear. Next, make sure the engine is operating in the correct temperature range, to warm and it will ping. You could also try backing off the timing a couple degrees at a time.Tim

Thanks Tim, Backing off the timing seems to make no difference. Temp is OK. Shall look at the EGR operation. There is that much pollution s#*t on this thing (hoses, valves etc) it's not funny Give me a simple 60's V8 any day.Paul
