Posting for a friend. He has a fresh 67 289 in a 66-about 500 miles. It is stock, usual rebuild with 67 heads that have hardened seats and that's it. It has Manley brand rail rocker arms. Snnday, at a car show, it, according to him, started sputtering through the carb so he quickly shut it down. He had it flatbedded home. Went over, pulled covers, and found the rocker broken in three pieces. The pushrod is straight. Got a new Federal Mogul replacement yesterday but would like some feedback. Thanks.

I don't know what would of caused the breakage, but I'd be curious to know what Manley has to say about it........ Ryan

MaNLEY DOES NOT MANUFACTURE ROCKER ARMS, THEY ONLY PACKAGE THEM AS DO MOST OF THE PERFORMANCE COMPANIES. Before I would blame the rocker, I would be suspect of the geometry. If he breaks another one soon then he needs to look at the rocker to valve alignment. Yes, they are. They are/were brand new in blister package. At the time of rebuild, a neighbor, cleaning his garage, found them, had sold car, and brought them over to me. I gave them to my friend to use. There is only 500 miles on the whole deal. There were no heads available at the time of rebuild, his were shot and needed too much work. These heads were obtained from an engine co. in Houston. They have a have 289 cast on them but one is a C-8 and the other is older. 289 heads are getting scarce. it seems.

I'd look for evidence of interference between the rocker's slot and the rocker stud for starters ------------------ '68 mustang 351 clevor- 10.92@124 '67 Stang, 351W -11.18@118 '69 351C Torino-14.90@100 '78 Pickup 351W-15.56@88 '79 Pickup 460 ET=??
