Whats everyones take on these? What horsepower range would you have to be in to really need one, (I plan on building a 393 or 408W) About 500 to 550 hp. Any info would help.

Unless there is a new one out that I don't know about, the current crop is based on the 8.2 deck 289/302.
You can't build a 393 or 408 stroker out of one of those without spending a LOT of money on a custom crank, rods and pistons.
A standard 351W block can take a lot of HP.

Dart has part numbers on their website for 351 blocks. I assume they are out as I have seen listed on some retailers websites, however I haven't ever seen one personally.

As of the PRI show during December, there were none cast yet. Dart told me that the 351W block availability would probably not happen until 2004. That may have changed.

They have at least shipped a few.
A friend has one of the 9.5" blocks sitting in a local machine shop...
They are also making an aluminum 302 block I have heard.

Theres supposed to be an 8.7" block also, no?

Regardless, the factory block is fine for 550hp.
