i have slip joints in my headers, there is a leak comming from the slip joints.
i was advised by one exhaust shop to use"plain old silicon"
another shop said use "hi temp silicon"
what would be the temperature of the headers?
the slip joints are about 18inches away from the heads?
what silicon should i use?

I'd contact your header manufacturer and find out what they recommmend to use at the joints.....

IMO, I can't see ANY TYPE of silicone working for what you've described....

We have used red silicone as a suppliment to the gaskets at the head. If it didn't burn up there, 18 inces away from the head should work. Hi temp slicone is rated for 1400 degrees.
