I have a buddy that's putting together an budget street/strip (mostly strip) engine for his mini-tubbed '87 fox body Mustang. I know there have been a million similar engines built and raced in the past, so I was wondering if anybody had owned one, and what they thought of it. It has 28 x 10.5 slicks, light wheels and brakes, 9", spool w/ 4.56 or 4.88, Jerico 4-speed, Mcleod soft-loc clutch and aluminum flywheel. .030 over 302 flattop w/ hypereutectic, and 5/64" (yuck) ring package Nicely ported/milled early 289 heads, w/ 1.90/1.60 Ferrea valves, Crane gold rockers Comp FS-290-B6 cam, 290/304 Adv., 255/266 @.050, .576/.570 lift on 106 deg. C9OX intake with 4777 Holley (700 DP), cell, good electric pump and fuel system Flowtech headers w/ 3" exhaust thru "X" pipe, dump at axle MSD-6AL, motorcraft electronic distributor, good wires True 10.7:1, electric water pump, electric fan, little alternator VP C12 or C11 fuel Also available for use is a Comp FS-280-B6 cam, 280/284, 242/248, .541/.522, 106 ------------------ Mark Walton '83 Mustang NHRA Stocker (under construction - track debut 2003) '69 "off brand" NHRA SS/EA

First off the 4777 is a 650 DP Mark, not a 700. With a 700 DP and what you have listed that thing should go (with a decent driver)high elevens out of the box. As long as the back end is set up well enough to hook the car.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Thanks Alex, he'll be happy to hear this.My mistake...4778. I've been working on a 4777 for my brother, and had it stuck in my head. Yeah, the suspension is done right. Any idea of HP/ET difference between the two cams? He's nervous about the shortblock, and thought bringing the powerband down some (via the smaller cam) might make him feel better. ------------------ Mark Walton '83 Mustang NHRA Stocker (under construction - track debut 2003) '69 "off brand" NHRA SS/EA

I like this one Mark >Comp FS-290-B6 cam, 290/304 Adv., 255/266 @.050, .576/.570 lift on 106 deg. I have used it before with good results in a similar bracket 289.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." So what RPM will it have to run with the 290-B6? The pistons/rods/bolts have him sorta scared. He wants to run this for a year or two to sort out the car, then move on to his "good" engine. ------------------ Mark Walton '83 Mustang NHRA Stocker (under construction - track debut 2003) '69 "off brand" NHRA SS/EA

6500-7000. The pistons and rods will live there with good oil, gas and no No2.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
