i havent taken the plugs out yet but is it a bad sign if there is a little oil on the outside of the head around the plug? only on one plug.....as the car is missing badly at low rpm and back firing out the right hand exhaust

That depends.Take the plug out and see if its oil coated on the business end.If you have a little valve cover leak it will often run down and collect around the plug.The rest of the oil seems to burn off.I have removed lots of plugs with a little oil around the outside edge of the threads.Sounds like your having problems though so I would pull the plug and check it out.Make sure your plug is firing,check wires as well.Hows your compression?
