My engine is a 289 with 4bbl and headers...no internal engine mods currently. with that said, would a msd setup really help my car that much more than pertronix or crane electronic igintion? What do you think about the crane xr-i unit, and the pertronix ignitor unit? How do any of these help the engine?

I don't think your going to notice much of a power increase from any of these ignitions on a stock type engine. You may notice better starting and a little crisper throttle response.I installed the pertronix in my mustang just to get away from doing the maintenance and replacement on my original style points type ignition.Once you get into higher compression and lots of carburetion and camshaft overlap these more expensive more powerful ignition systems start to show more benefit. They are also pretty much necessary on nitrous applications.
