I just got a used DL and want to try and check it if possible before installation. Does anyone know how to do it? I know how to check it on the car but don't know an easy way to check it out of the car. Thanks for any help.

What do you want to check? It is a ratcheting unit so it locks under a load. To bench test it you would need two axles and two strong arms. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Alex, I got the axles. Don't know about the 2 strong arms though. What do I do next to make sure the unit works? I know on the car you jack the back up with the car in park. Then you turn both tires in the same direction and then hold one side and turn the other in the opposite direction to get it to ratchet. I tried doing the same thing with the axles and the DL but it didn't seem to work. Does it take a whole bunch of force to do this? Maybe I need to get someone to hold one axle and another to hold the DL?

You will need a couple of pry bars and two strong guys to get it to ratchet on the bench.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Thanks Alex. Maybe it's easier to just install it and hope for the best.

That's what I'd do. I really doesn't take that long. SteveW

Thanks, Steve. I guess I'll get the center section together this weekend and try it out.
