I have a 289 with 4bbl and stock cam. I had the carburetor and intake put on, with my newly rebuilt engine, at the local shop and adjusted. After intial break-in of the engine, I took it in for a good "look-over" to make sure everything was going well, changed the oil, and told them to adjust the carb somemore b/c it studdered a little when I gave around 3/4 throttle or more, from idle or low speeds. They adjusted it and fixed that. Anyway, that may not be any relevance to my question, but it idles at about 800 or 900. That seems high to me. Keep in mind I have an automatic transmission, holley 600cfm carb(vac. second.). Also, I recently checked my gas mileage and got somewhere just over 10 miles a gallon(that isn't with me driving like grandma, but the pedal wasn't always pinned to the floor). I should definately be getting better mileage. What do you think? What should I do? Thanks

Are you gonna rely on a mechanic or do you want to do it yourself? If you want a mechanic to do it, then find a better one. If you want help fixing it yourself then we can help. First thing you need is a vacumm gauge. Get one and let us know when you're ready. SteveW
