OK!! Rebuilt the 650dp today, got it running, and MAN, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I should've let it soak longer, but I wanted to get it going today. I was using Berryman's Chem-Dip and it didn't seem to be working that well, so I ended up using spray carb cleaner, blew out all the passages with air, used a BG renew kit, and magnifico. I noticed that someone drilled through the primary throttle plates and the idle is kind of erratic, but pretty stable. Run & drive is excellent, smooth, seamless power!! And talk about giving a new meaning to "itlbrnmoff"... I ran that sucker up to 6 grand and left 2 rubber trails 1/2 a block long... I want to thank everyone who have stuck to their guns about Holley carbs, it doesn't get any better than this!! ------------------

You're welcome. Glad it worked out for you. Once you learn how to tune a Holley you'll never go back. You might want to plug those holes in the throttle plates or replace them. You only need those for radically cammed engines. SteveW

Just got home...yeah, I was wondering about some JB-Weld or something to plug those holes? The idle won't go down as far as I want it unless I turn in the mixture screws a little. For no more bigger than the holes are, would 2 little pieces of loose JB-Weld ingested into the engine hurt much? JoeD, was that an old leaker joke? I am kind of embarrassed to say, but the last time I had a Holley DP was in 1984 on a '74 Chevelle Laguna S3... And that car was kick a$$, until the dashboard caught fire and melted the whole interior on my way to work one day... I think the sheer humiliation of that event made me run away from bowties...now it's just blue jeans and t-shirts... ------------------

You'd be better to replace the throttle plates. JB is good stuff, but it would be constantly exposed to gasoline, which is an excellent solvent. Anything ingested into the engine is bad news. It doesn't take much to hang a valve open or score a cylinder wall. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com
