I'm starting to wonder the same thing. Mark Martin blew up last week, also. That's five engines in a week. Something aint right in the engine shop. I'm waiting to see what Rouch Racing has to say about it. Ought to be interesting. Dave & Terri ------------------ '65 Mustang Fastback '02 Explorer XLT I don't suffer from insanity. Last week Martin's engine died due to a broken crank shaft. After this weekend, all of the engines that died are getting torn down right now. Should know something soon. Let's see now.. Chevy has a newly designed, pure NASCAR racing engine that has no relationship to any production engine, either the traditional SBC or the LS1-6 series of engines. Chrysler has an even newer designed NASCAR racing engine that, like GM, has no relationship to any previous production engine. Ford is still using an engine that is a combination of the 30 year old Winsor/Cleveland PRODUCTION engines. No wonder they are having trouble keeping them together racing against the competition! NASCAR finally has Ford where they want them, just able to hang on and win a few to keep things interesting. Ford had the best engine of the production-based lot (HP wise), and GM couldn't compete with the SBC so NASCAR allowed GM to design a whole new engine (copied a lot of the Ford design); likewise Chrysler. These newer designs have only begun to reach their potential while the Ford is about maxed out. IIRC, Ford petitioned NASCAR last year for a slight head change to even things up with their competitors; but NASCAR turned them down. Penske knew the score and switched to Dodge. You never hear this aspect of the engine issue discussed on the TV or NASCAR influenced publications.------------------ Bernie Frank 66 Fastback restomod project 85 GT (preserved) 82 GT (original)

Jack Roush has been known to cross over the 'lean' a/f boundry looking for fuel economy, but jeez Last week Mark's motor came apart... I read it was connecting rod failure. Now they're reporting it was actually crankshaft failure. Right on Bernie , that's how i see it too. They put handicaps on the Fords until Chevy could get a "Ford-style" engine of their own. I would rather see regular SBC's again and Fords restricted to Windsor wedge heads. I think Ford's could still kick 'em.
