351C 4V closed. 11.1 compression. ProStreeter.

My question is how much converter can I run and still be comfortable on the street? What size " and stall speed?

I still want to be able to drive in rod runs this summer. Then thrash it at the track.

Thanks for the input.

I run about 3500 with my C and couldn't take much more on the street. It's pretty loose for driving around town.

To each his own and what yor personal comfert level is.
Both KV and I have had 8 inch 5000 converters on the street.
Neither of us had what we would consider problems.
Now neither of us went on 1000 mile road trips either.

For something that gets drove very far, I would try and stay away from anything higher than 3500-3800. Like Alex said, I have ran my old 8" race convertor on the street, and it would stall almost 5000 rpm. But, I never drove it very far. I'm not sure if I would have wanted to, it just slipped so bad at hi-way speeds. With my 10" convertor it would run around 3000 rpm at 55 mph, same tires, gear and trans, but swapping my old race convertor into the trans resulted in 50 mph being 3500 rpm, with it "slipping" something terrible. I could lightly goose the throttle at 50 mph and not feel it at all, but the rpm would flare up a bit.

I run a 8" 4900rpm converter with no problems. Just have a good trans cooler.
I wouldn't want to drive it every day, but it's OK for weekends.

Thanks for the responses.

My partner has been telling me to run a 3800 - 4000 stall. I was thinking it may be too much. That's why I asked. This car won't go over 40 miles in a day of cruising. So it would be OK to run a higher stall according to you folks.

I appreciate it.

Rick
